iPhone Duo pre-orders, price, and release date: everything confirmed so far
Pre-orders open October 16 and the phone ships October 23. Here is every spec, price, and detail Apple has confirmed so far, current as of September 21, 2026.
Release date and price
Pre-orders open Friday, October 16, 2026 at 5 a.m. Pacific, with the device shipping and reaching stores October 23, 2026. Apple has confirmed a starting price of $1,999, which puts it well above the standard iPhone lineup and in line with what most people expected for a first-generation foldable.
The hardware
iPhone Duo uses a book-style folding design with two displays:
- A 7.6-inch inner display, the main screen when the phone is unfolded
- A 5.4-inch outer display for quick tasks when the phone is folded shut
- An A20 Pro chip powering both displays and the camera system
- A dual 48MP rear camera system
- An under-display FaceTime camera on the inner screen, so there is no visible notch or cutout interrupting the fold
- Apple Pencil support on the inner display
No Face ID
One of the more debated changes: iPhone Duo drops Face ID in favor of a side-mounted Touch ID sensor, similar to the button used on the iPad Air and iPad mini. This is a hardware constraint of the folding design rather than a downgrade decision on its own, but it does mean the unlock experience is different from every other current iPhone.
The crease
Apple is using a nano-texture finish on the inner display specifically to reduce how visible the fold crease is. It does not eliminate the crease physically, but early hands-on impressions from press briefings suggest it is significantly harder to notice under normal lighting and mostly visible at sharp angles under strong light.
Battery life
Apple's official claims are up to 44 hours of video playback using the outer display and up to 31 hours using the inner display. As with any first-party battery claim, real-world mixed usage numbers will vary, and we will not have a confirmed real-world number until review units are in hand after the October 23 launch.
Accessories
Apple is offering an official case at $79 and a folio-style case at $129. Because the phone has two halves connected by a hinge, third-party case compatibility is worth checking carefully before you buy — a case that does not account for the hinge mechanism can prevent the phone from folding flat or interfere with the fold gesture entirely.
Software: iOS 27 and Split View
iPhone Duo runs a version of iOS 27 built around Split View multitasking on the inner display. The split is fixed at 50/50 — you cannot drag to resize the two panes, and the system does not currently support playing two videos back to back simultaneously in split view. Apple has confirmed Netflix, Zoom, and Slack as third-party apps optimized to fill the inner display at launch; apps that have not yet adopted the new SDK will run in a boxed-in compatibility mode instead.
We will keep this page updated as more details are confirmed between now and the October 23 launch.
