iPhone Duo Size and Weight: What 254 Grams Means in Daily Use
Apple publishes exact open and closed dimensions for iPhone Duo. We translate those numbers into realistic grip, pocket, desk, and one-handed-use expectations.

A foldable can be thin when open and still feel substantial in a pocket. Apple’s numbers for iPhone Duo make both statements true: it is 5.2 mm deep when open, 11.3 mm when closed, and weighs 254 grams.
Those measurements are confirmed. How they feel is not something a specification sheet can settle, so this guide separates the published facts from our ergonomic reading.
The official measurements
According to Apple, iPhone Duo measures 164.6 by 117.8 by 5.2 mm when open and 84.1 by 117.8 by 11.3 mm when closed. Weight is 254 grams. Apple offers the device in Night Sky and Star White titanium finishes.
The open form is unusually wide for an iPhone and the closed form is unusually narrow. That shift matters at least as much as the weight.
Closed: narrow but thick
At 84.1 mm wide and 117.8 mm tall, the closed device should occupy less vertical pocket space than a conventional large phone. The 11.3 mm depth, before adding a case, is the tradeoff.
Our reading is that the short, narrow shape may feel secure for quick outer-screen actions because fingers can wrap farther around the body. One-handed reach should benefit from the reduced height. Thickness and hinge weight, however, may make the device feel denser than the silhouette suggests.
A protective case can change that balance quickly. A hinge-cover design adds material at the thickest point, while a two-piece shell preserves more of the compact shape.
Open: thin but two-handed
At 164.6 mm wide, the open device is closer to a small reading surface than a traditional phone. The 5.2 mm depth is striking, but thinness does not make the full width one-handed.
Expect two-handed use for typing, editing, gaming, and precise multitasking. Holding one half while the other extends outward creates leverage around the hinge, so grip comfort will depend on app layout and where the center of mass sits.
Developers can help by keeping primary actions within reachable zones and allowing toolbars to adapt. A control placed at the far edge of the inner display may be visually balanced but physically inconvenient.
The meaning of 254 grams
Weight alone does not predict fatigue. Distribution, grip width, case material, and posture all matter. Folded, the mass is concentrated in a compact body. Open, the same mass spreads across a wider shape.
For reading, the most comfortable posture may be resting one edge on a desk or holding the device with both hands. In seated or standing poses, the hinge can carry the device so your hands do not have to. That is a genuine ergonomic advantage of a self-supporting foldable.
Pocket and bag considerations
The closed height should fit pockets that struggle with very tall phones, but thickness can produce a more visible outline. Tight front pockets are unlikely to be the best match once a case is installed. A jacket pocket or small bag may suit the form better.
Avoid putting hard objects against the inner display or hinge. Apple rates iPhone Duo IP68 for water and dust resistance, but that does not make a folding display immune to point pressure or grit trapped inside a case.
Before buying a case
Use Apple’s exact measurements rather than a generic “foldable” label. Check whether a case protects the hinge, whether both halves can open fully, and whether the edge interferes with side-button Touch ID, Camera Control, USB-C, or Apple Pencil use.
The best case for grip may not be the most protective case. Textured thin shells can improve confidence without turning 11.3 mm into a much larger package.
Our conclusion
iPhone Duo is not simply a larger iPhone that folds smaller. Closed, it exchanges height for thickness. Open, it exchanges one-handed reach for a broad canvas. The 254-gram figure is meaningful, but the ability to prop the device up may matter more during long sessions. Treat these as informed expectations until independent hands-on testing can verify them.
