Why older SDKs are not equivalent
An app built with an older SDK can remain compatible, but it cannot validate the same current runtime behavior or use the same Duo-specific Simulator support. Compatibility is not the same as optimization. A project can launch and still expose fixed-width layouts, stale orientation assumptions, or scene state that disappears during a resize.

It changes the testing target, not your deployment target automatically
Opening a project in Xcode 27.1 beta does not require raising the minimum iOS version. The SDK used to compile and the deployment target are separate decisions. Teams can keep supporting older iPhones while adding a current Simulator destination and conditional availability where new APIs require it.

Create a dedicated branch, archive current performance baselines, and run the app through Duo layouts before changing production build settings. Treat the beta as a compatibility lab. Do not ship a release solely because it looks correct in one open-device screenshot.

Apple’s Xcode notes are the authority for the beta toolchain, but they are not public iOS 27.1 consumer release notes. Timing, final build numbers, and any changes between beta and release remain open until Apple publishes them.
