How to record better audio on iPhone Duo
Spatial Audio, wind noise reduction, Audio Mix, audio zoom and microphone modes: how to get clean sound from iPhone Duo.

Viewers forgive soft video but not bad audio. iPhone Duo has built-in microphones and several audio features worth knowing.
Audio features on iPhone Duo
- Spatial Audio and stereo recording for video.
- Wind noise reduction outdoors.
- Audio Mix, which lets you adjust how voices and background sound are balanced after recording.
- Audio zoom, which focuses the audio on what you zoom into.
- Voice Isolation and Wide Spectrum microphone modes for calls.
Settings to use
- For a talking-head video, record in stereo and use Audio Mix afterward to bring your voice forward.
- Outdoors, keep wind noise reduction on.
- For FaceTime or calls in noisy places, use Voice Isolation. With a group in the room, use Wide Spectrum. See our FaceTime guide.
Placement matters more than settings
- Keep the phone close: 50 to 80 cm from your mouth is a good start.
- Record in a room with soft furniture, curtains or a rug.
- Avoid hard, empty rooms that echo.
- Keep your hands off the table while recording on tabletop pose, to avoid thumps.
External microphones
The USB-C port supports accessories, so USB-C microphones and wireless lavalier kits with a USB-C receiver are an option. Check compatibility with the specific mic before buying.
Pair it with good video
Read our video settings guide and set up a teleprompter so you do not lose your train of thought.
