Why does my iPhone Duo get hot? Overheating causes and fixes
What is normal warmth, what is not, and practical steps to keep iPhone Duo cool during gaming, charging and long video recording.

A warm iPhone Duo is usually normal. A hot one that dims its screen or pauses charging is the phone protecting itself. Here is how to tell the difference and what to do.
How iPhone Duo handles heat
Apple says the A20 Pro chip is vapor-cooled: an advanced thermal management system with a vapor chamber spreads heat during demanding tasks and gaming. The phone is designed to operate between 0 and 35 °C (32 to 95 °F) ambient temperature.
Common reasons it gets hot
- Fast charging, especially with a 60W adapter. See our charging guide.
- Gaming on the inner display at high refresh rates. Our gaming, battery and heat review goes deeper.
- Recording 4K at high frame rates, such as 4K 120 fps Dolby Vision.
- Direct sun while recording or navigating, combined with 3000 nits outdoor brightness.
- Charging while gaming or recording, which stacks two heat sources.
What to do when it gets hot
- Move it out of direct sunlight and remove a thick case for a while.
- Stop charging until it cools down, then charge with a lower-wattage adapter.
- Switch from the inner to the outer display for lighter tasks.
- Lower video settings: 4K 30 fps or 60 fps generates less heat than 120 fps.
- Close apps you are not using in the background.
When to get it checked
If iPhone Duo shows a temperature warning in normal room conditions without heavy use, or gets hot while idle, back it up and contact Apple Support.
